Trans-Pac spot rates drop ahead of new tariff threat    (22/09/2018)
US importers should not assume this week’s decline in spot rate increases is an indication that rates will fall further in the weeks ahead. Rather, they should prepare for unprecedented turmoil in the eastbound Pacific amidst cargo rolling at Asian ports, congestion in Shanghai that is throwing vessels off schedule, warehouses in the US that are filling to capacity, and soon an early surge of pre-Chinese New Year shipments as importers rush to get ahead of 25 percent tariffs scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1.
