Rail container traffic on the rise in Valencia   14/03/2023



In 2022, a total of 2,230,683 tonnes of cargo were transported by rail in the Port of Valencia, an increase of 8% over 2021. At the same time, the Spanish port saw 236,142 TEUs be moved by rail in the previous year, translating to a 10% growth over 2021.

Additionally, the percentage of containers carried by rail compared to the port's total was 7.8% in 2021, rising to 8.9% in 2022.

Port of Valencia reported 13 trains per day, 90 trains per week, and 380 trains per month in the previous year, when 4,634 trains reached or exited the Valencian district, which is 9% more than in 2021.

According to rail-port traffic data from the Port of Valencia, the average length of these trains was 495 meters in 2022, up from 485 meters the previous year, while the number of wagons increased by 15% to 87,070 in 2022 from 76,563 in 2021.
